Purpose
To provide a single venue in which a broad spectrum of scientists can gather to review significant research progress from the past 50 years, assess the current state of the art, and promote cross-fertilization among the sub-disciplines in this very wide-ranging field to benefit future work.

Specific Objectives

  1. Survey the past fifty years of speech research in six different areas:

    • Phonetics and Phonology
    • Acoustics of Speech
    • Planning and Production of Speech
    • Speech Perception
    • Development, Pathology and Remediation of Speech
    • Technology: Speech Synthesis and Speech Recognition
  2. Present examples of interesting current work in each of the six areas.
  3. Stimulate future cross-fertilization among the six areas.

Scientific Program
Includes invited oral sessions and contributed poster sessions.
